Cibola

A long exposure photograph of a large sign that reads "Mobile Home Park Cibola". The words mobile, home, and park are in capital letters while the word Cibola is in a script font and is written at an angle with a swooping stroke underneath. The sign also features an arrow pointing to the right. To the left of the sign the glow from the street lights and traffic can be seen. The sign itself features no illumination.

About:

This is photograph is one of the oldest featured in this exhibit. I was still getting my footing with long exposure photos. I had not quite landed on my formula for calculating exposure, but this photo was a major step towards figuring it out.

This is on Main Street in Mesa, Arizona, a road famous for its intact mid-century neon motel signs. I think the absence of neon makes this one interesting. I'm not sure why, maybe it's just easy to overlook when outshined by the bright neon signs.
