El Cortez

A long exposure photograph of a 1930s movie theater. The theater features an impressive marque and neon sign. The neon sign is vertical and reaches to the top of the building. At the very top the word "El" is horizontal coming out from the face of the building perpendicular to the front of the building. The sign then goes down at a slight angle and the word "Cortez" extends the length vertically. At the bottom is the marque, the movie listed is "Justice League". To the left of the frame the street can be seen. There is a street light extending over the road, its lights are illuminating the wet road. A cross walk sign is seen on the pole. The road extends into darkness in the background. In the foreground a pickup truck can be seen parked on the road.

About:

New Mexico is a great little weekend trip if you are living in Arizona. We took a spur of the moment trip to soak in the hot springs along the Rio Grande. Truth or Consequences is very similar to the little town that I grew up in along the border of AZ and NM. I found several night lights on this trip. I selected another one to be in this exhibit as well.

The three pillars of my night lights are bars, motels, and theaters. This is a really great one, the motif fits in perfect with the small southwestern town. You just can't go wrong taking a night photo of a beautiful old neon sign.

I did not see Justice League.
