Lewis Motel

A long exposure photograph of a motel sign in the middle of the desert. In the foreground the faint dark outline of joshua trees can be barely seen. Behind the trees in the middle of the frame the brightly lit sign can be seen. Some desert shrubs in between the sign and the trees are illuminated by the neon lights. The sign is in the shape of an arrow pointing to the right. The word "Lewis" is at the top in a script typeface, in the middle the word "MOTEL" is all in caps and is twice as big as the text above, below that is the word "VACANCY" also all caps but in a thin set typeface.

About:

Here is another photograph from Joshua Tree. If you want to know more about the location of this photo, checkout the page for Neon Star.

There were a few times where this photograph was edited out of this exhibition, but something always draws me back in when I view the print. I really tried to balance the contrast between the very bright sign and the very dark Joshua Trees in the foreground. Lean in close and you can see them. They are just faintly visible.

This is an older print and I can feel a new iteration of this print coming on. I've picked up a few new techniques for bringing the dark Joshua Trees out.
