Monument to the Maine

A long exposure photograph of a monument with two Ionic columns at the base is a statue of a woman. The woman is looking toward the sky, on her side is the skeletal body of a person, its hard to tell if this is a man or a woman. Above the statue is a plaque with the words "A las víctimas de El Maine que fueron sacrificadas por la voracidad imperialista en su afán de apoderarse de la isla de Cuba. Febrero 1898 – Febrero 1961". The columns and statue are fully lit, beyond is a completely black sky.

About:

See the page for Fidel to get a bit of the back story on my trip to Cuba.

This is the Monument to the Victims of the USS Maine in Havana on the Malecón. It's is a great spot to sit and watch all the old American cars drive by with the waves crashing over the sea wall.

There used to be an eagle at the top that was symbolic of the United States, it was removed during the revolution. The hope is that if relations with the U.S. ever normalize, it will be re-installed. I'll have to come back an make another photo if it ever happens.
