New Windsor

A long exposure photograph of a hotel taken at the corner of the building. The front has a large vertical neon sign that spans to the top of the building. The sign reads "New Windsor" at the top horizontally, the word "Hotel" is vertical and runs the length of the sign. At the bottom it reads "Air Conditioned" horizontally. The side of the building shows the brickwork with a faded painted sign the reads "Hotel Air Conditioned". One small window is on the side of the building, the light is on and you can just barely make out the interior. In the sky monsoon clouds can be seen in the dark sky.

About:

This photograph is the one that made me decide to dedicate a lot of time and effort to this body of work. It was the first one that really wowed me when I saw it floating there in the tray of developer.

There have been many iterations of this print and I am really happy with this current version. Its been a lot of work in the darkroom to get the bricks on the side of the building just right with the balance of keeping the highlights in the sign read-able. The other challenge is getting the dark sky and clouds to look right. I'm sure there will be another evolution of this print, but for now I am proud of what is shown here.
