Road Closed

A long exposure photograph of the middle of an alley, the path is narrow with buildings tight on each side of the frame. The photo is a bit claustrophobic and uncomfortable. There is graffiti on both sides of the alley most of it is hard to make out at the extreme angle, but on the left side of the frame a mural of a human skull can be seen. There are several lights illuminating the alley into the distance. In the middle of the path in the background a sign can be seen that reads "Road Closed" adding to the uninviting feeling of the place.

About:

I got this job at an ad agency that was based in Knoxville, so they flew me out for an orientation. I had already sworn off working at ad agencies, but I needed a job and thought I should give it another chance.

Anyway, I'm in Knoxville for a few days and have the evenings and nights pretty much to myself to explore downtown Knoxville looking for night lights. On the very first night, I slipped on some icy concrete stairs. I saved my camera and equipment but completely destroyed my phone that was in my back pocket. It literally bent at a near 45 degree angle. I usually use my phone to time these shots, so I was left to counting in my head for these 10 second to 2 minute exposures.

It ended up working out fine, but I was then stuck for a few days without a phone in a city where I didn't know anyone other than the people I just met at the job.

I ended up quitting a few months later. I was right about ad agencies and haven't worked at one since. Anyway this photo was almost edited out but I liked the way it hangs next to Impala Alley so here it is.
